Overview The first quarter of this semester long course is designed to teach students to efficiently use their Chrome book in order to prepare and format documents relevant in a business environment and communicate effectively. Emphasis will be placed on proper spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and word usage. The second quarter of this course will teach students to communicate in a clear, courteous, concise, and correct manner on both personal and professional levels. Competency will be developed in oral, written, social, technological, employment, and organizational communication with listening skills incorporated throughout the semester. Students will complete the course with a greater understanding of the importance of technology and the need for effective communication skills to advance in a business career.
Course Objective: Business Communication is designed to give students the basic knowledge and skills necessary to accurate oral communication and written correspondence within the framework of the business environment. This course will enhance reading comprehension, grammar usage and mechanics in written communication, research and presentation skills. Fundamental language and human relation skills will be emphasized to show their effects on effective vs. ineffective communication.
Learning Objectives:
The student will engage in an analytical process, in order to enhance comprehension and create personal meaning when reading.
The student will use research methodologies in order to develop, organize and refine information.
The student will write coherent business correspondence, instructions, descriptions, summaries and reports using appropriate forms, in order to respond to a variety of situations.
The student will develop oral communication skills by a variety of activities from informal to formal presentations, in order to organize information effectively.
